Happy Birthday ActionScript.com!!
ActionScript.com is seven years old this month. Over the years, we've grown, we've changed and we've evolved. In the interim, we've developed a pretty large audience that requires a pretty serious web server to keep up with.
On Friday April 21st 2006, we moved to a fully dedicated managed web host. It's a fat box (we call him SirServsALot) sitting right on top of a fat pipeline, totally dedicated to serving ActionScript.com articles and tutorials.
We've redesigned the website to be built for speed. You should notice a MAJOR speed increase when trying to find and access content on the site.
We've tried to benchmark the new server in load tests, and the difference is so great, we can't really get actual diagnostic values. The process on the old server was:
"Click" -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> Maybe something!!!!, -> wait -> wait -> NO!! -> wait -> wait, Damn! -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> part of something?? -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> wait -> "Complete Page".
Now it's more like:
"Click" -> w… "Complete Page"
The new server is so fast, we can't tell the difference between 4 users, 400 users or 4000 users on the site at one time. We hope you'll enjoy SirServsALot as much as we do!
