So says Jessica Speigel, part owner of the famed Flash resource.
“hey all...
First, I'd like to apologize to everyone for the extensive downtime with no warning or explanation. Aaron and I got in a car accident early last October, that's what I meant when I said life got in the way. Our internet access gets installed on the 19th, WH will follow soon after.
Please don't think that we somehow didn't care enough to keep the site running because nothing could be further from the truth. I can completely understand the concern about downtime in the future, but that's why we're taking care of that now.
We never, ever intended on letting the site die. The hard times were supposed to go a bit smoother, but sometimes things happen that are just out of your control and I hope you all can understand that. Just know that Aaron and I are still around and we are still working on WH. We both care a great deal for the site and everyone who contributed. We never intended for things to go down like this and I hope you all can accept my sincerest apologies.
Besides, how could we pull a Flashpad and feel right about ourselves afterwards, the irony would have been excruciating! So anyways, lots of love and see you soon!
So I guess it looks as though were-here may be on its way back after all.

2) How many times has were-here disappeared and then come back? I think this is at least the third time I can think of.

5) I wouldn't call Were-here "another site"... It's been around for ages and the people there have always been great. Good to hear they're coming back!

7) be sure to search for and save sx's 666 post thread listing most of the best threads in the site (and flashkit).
good stuff. To be a shame if it were to be forever lost.

8) 'Were Here' makes all of us better as Flash developers. It's one of the best Flash forums around! It saved my arse a couple of times.
Speedy recovery for Jessica and Aaron!

9) WH was a great site. It only went down twice big time. Once for about a month, now for a few months. It's nice that it will be coming back, but not sure what it will be. A lot of people have found other "homes". Some are bitter. If the community goes back there, and it stays stable this time, it will be good. What made it good in the first place was the people who went there.

12) This drives home a very interesting point about the web that I think a lot of people neglect to consider. That is, it is not permanent.
My company uses the web a lot for research and we have an unwritten policy that if you find something important, cool, etc. on the web, you should save a local copy because it might not be there the next time you go back.
I have never been that impressed with Were-Here as compared to other places like UltraShock and FlashKit but I do know they had a lot of examples and tutorials available and it would be a shame to have all that just disappear.

13) Every site has it's pluspoints. flashkit has its open source flas. ultrashock has some great tutorials. were-here's didn't have much of either, but its forums was where it shined, IMHO. more traffic than US, and generally more experience than FK.

14) I *totally* have to agree with BIT-101!
The WH forums were (and luckily will remain to be) the ultimate resource, where you quickly could find an answer to any question.
WH forums cover in depth topics that US and FK not even have started...
I thought it was sunny spring I felt in my stomach yesterday, now I realise it was the unanounced return of WH :-D
yahoooooooow !
to Jess & Aaron: i sincerely hope both of you fully recovered from the accident you had.

15) yeah... really professional to leave literally nothing for months and pop back in and say "hey, sorry about that". People have moved on with their lives in the meantime. I find were-here filled with rude unprofessional people who just like to b.s. alot. Flashkit is better and has better resources (hundreds) and Ultrashock is even better still. My 2 cents.

Here here! That is SO true. I have not yet found a forum with such experience and so many people willing to help and discuss a variety of flash-related topics.
"I find were-here filled with rude unprofessional people who just like to b.s. alot." [blog-buddy]
Dude, ANY forum has rude unprofessional people. But I think that were-here had very few. And you know what? There was a specific forum for B.S.'ing in.
You don't know how influential were-here has been in my personal development. Don't bad-mouth a community just because you had a bad experience...

19) It was irresponsible for Jessica Speigel to let the site die without (at the very least) posting a simple page explaining the situation. Twice. We all have problems, but in the midst of them it really shows what you're made of if you can update the community you helped establish. I'm done with we're-here.

20) well, I wish we had dreamless back too :D
an I also think ultrashock is better, great tut's and great forums

21) I think we should give them a break, we don’t need to go as far as calling Jessica irresponsible if they could not continue a service that was completely FREE to everyone. Everybody has ups and downs once in while, and things happens that are beyond our control.
I have to say were-here is one the best forums I’ve seen, responses were quick, there was a genuine effort by everyone there to help others with any problem or subject involving flash.
I think were-here set an example for what a flash forum should be all about.
What about offering support to them if they need it to relaunch were-here? I am willing to put a bit of my time and my two cents where my mouth is.
Cheers.

22) All respect for the other Flash forums, but WH outdid them all. The amount of broad posts and deep posts on everyting from boardcast video, web and photoshop is still unmatched by the other forums. US is a great forum, but few posts there and FK, while they have good tuts, still don't understand basic colorsheme. :)
